Food Quality and Safety

Our solutions help producers, retailers, and regulatory authorities to track, secure and improve food or feed quality by utilizing our various advanced spectral image processing methods.

Spectral Vision Scanner

The spectral vision scanner can provide information beyond visual inspection and can detect:

  • features of and damage to the scanned objects, e.g., rotting, ripeness, water content, composition, granularity, freshness, color, shape, and size;
  • foreign objects / contaminants, e.g., cling film (wrapping foil) pieces in sliced meat products, remains of pesticides or other chemicals (wax…);
  • development of infections, plant diseases, toxins;
  • product integrity defects, e.g., damaged packaging.

ADVANTAGES:

  • non-contact measurement
  • non-invasive measurement
  • real-time analytics (suitable for production lines)
  • “on-site” monitoring – no need to send samples to a laboratory
  • works also for small samples
  • measurement of the spatial distribution of the selected property
  • enables an analysis of the whole product quantity (instead of point sampling)
  • imaging is more specific and sensitive when compared to point measurements

Solutions for Packaging Control

Defects in pharmaceutical or food containers can result in loss of integrity, leakage of the contents and/or contamination of the contents of the container. It is highly desirable, and a requirement of many health authorities, that such containers are defect-free and that suppliers of such products have installed adequate quality control procedures to ensure that, as far as possible, such containers are defect-free.

INSPECTION OF DEFECTS IN GLASS CONTAINERS

Our solution for the detection of defects in glass containers covers all key types of defects: cracks, holes, air bubbles in material, scratches, and chipped walls. It can be applied to food glass containers as well as transparent pharmaceutical containers. Typical pharmaceutical containers are transparent vials, syringe barrels, ampoules, and the like. The food industry makes extensive use of glass containers such as bottles and storage jars.

INSPECTION OF CANS

During the production process, cans incur various damages which appear unappealing to consumers or can even result in the loss of integrity of a can. Our solution inspects the 3D shape of a can for dents or twisted edges and, optionally, also the labels on a can.

INSPECTION OF NATURAL ATMOSPHERE SEALED FOIL TRAYS

Some ready-to-eat meals are packaged in trays that are sealed with loose foil without a modified atmosphere, which prevents the application of standard seal integrity inspection methods such as gas sniffers or pressure testers. Our solution enables the inspection of seal integrity on trays with loose foil and a natural atmosphere filling.
